this is a page dedicated to my art influences, both in media and specific artists i've been following over the years. i've been drawing for forever, so there's a lot of old cartoons and other things in here that helped shape my style. i talk a lot about these sources' significance to me and blabh blabhablbhab

shows, games, books, etc. whatever

the powerpuff girls (1998)

this show was my everything growing up, and i feel kind of embarrassed to admit how much i still love it, but it was genuinely that main reason i started drawing at all.

i was born in 2002, so i wasn't really "conscious" enough to start enjoying it until their 10th anniversary rolled around and the show was over lol! but i was scarily active in the community as a child. i made animations, drawings, and speedpaints with ms paint, windows movie maker, a mouse, and my shitty family desktop, and it caused me to get my first ever decent following in terms of artwork. at one point, i had over 20k followers at age 13. once it had gotten to that point, posting my art online had become scary instead of fun. although it was still a big source of my initial confidence and desire for me to want to get serious about improving.

i uploaded all my stuff to youtube and deviantart, although i went back and took everything down when i turned 15/16 bc i became extremely embarrassed lol. it was a signficant time for me where i began developing some sense of what kind of content got people's attention, how to animate, and knowledge of a few diff programs. some of the other people around my age that participated in the early ppg youtube community at the same time as me, i still talk to today. it's crazy, because i feel like i practically grew up with them.

i love everything about this show, and it really made me favor simple stories with familial themes. the powerpuff girl style was something i emulated for years before i actually went and looked for my own, and it was really good for helping me practice drawing and designing characters.

overall, the show's unique and shape-y character designs, blocky backgrounds, and unique use of color are some of the things that i feel influenced me the most.

the earliest art i could find from this goes back to 2011, when i was 8/9, but it's all too embarrassing, so instead here's some art of my little puffed "sona" from 2012.

this one is still... pretty embarrassing LOL but it makes me smile sm just knowing that 10 year old me was SO proud of this drawing. i drew this with a mouse in paint and then did some weird shit in gimp(?) to get the background.

and here's a crude gif i made of me and my favorite character

ok that's enough of that

the bone comics (1991)

i read these comics a LOT when i was in elementary school. i got them from my public library, and i would use them in place of actual books to lie on my reading logs a bunch.

i have never finished this series fully, but i plan to someday. i love the way the main characters are drawn. so cartoony and bouncy. the author did a great job of making their personalities apparent in their designs, despite how simple they are, which is something i love!

the characters are always squashed and stretched into very expressive poses, and it's something that i stil try and translate into my own art. a lot of the time, my character drawings come out looking really stiff and rigid. i sometimes go back and look through bones pages to try and get looser when it comes to pushing my poses a little farther.

also i played the game, which i think is really silly and charming :)

love this dude!
